When selecting laser safety goggles for use with low power lasers used for visual alignment it is important to not only consider the safety aspect it is also important to take into account if the laser spot or line will still be visible to the eye while wearing the goggles.  The lowest attenuation we do for red lasers is an OD of 1.5 which reduces the power of a 1mW or 5mW laser down by around 30 times. If a 1mW red or green laser is reduced by 30 times it will no longer be visible unless it is viewed under very low light levels or in the dark.
