How long will it take to get my order?
Orders are typically dispatched within 1 business day plus transit time. Domestic deliveries within the US typically take between 2-4 business days depending on the location and the service you select. Please refer to the shipping options when placing the order for details.
How do I work out the correct wavelength (nm) and Optical Density for my Laser?
To ensure you are using the correct laser protective eyewear:
Check your laser’s manual for the wavelength (λ) and optical density (OD) requirements.
If you can’t find the manual you could try searching the internet or our chat service for the specifications using the laser model and make.
If you need assistance, contact us at info@dioptika.com, and we’ll help you choose the most suitable laser glasses for your application.
What does Optical Density (OD) mean?
Optical Density (OD) represents how much a lens attenuates or blocks laser energy.
- A higher OD value means greater laser protection.
- OD is specific to each wavelength and does not apply uniformly across all lasers.
- OD is to the base 10 so an OD of 3 is 1000 times attenuation, an OD 4 has 10,000 times and an OD 7 has 10,000,000 times.
The OD rating is a crucial factor in selecting the right laser protective eyewear.
What is Visible Light Transmission (VLT)?
VLT measures the percentage of visible light (380-720nm) that passes through the lens, taking into account the eye’s natural sensitivity to light.
- A higher VLT (35-65%) is ideal for general use and all lighting conditions.
- A mid VLT of 20-35% is ok for normal lit environments
- Low VLT (below 20%) should only be used in well-lit environments.
Does DiOptika Offer a warranty?
Yes, DiOptika’s range of laser safety glasses come with the following warranty coverage:
- Lenses & workmanship – 1-year warranty against material defects.
- Frames – 5-year warranty against defects.
- Pet Laser Goggles frames – 2-year warranty.
- Metal eyeshields - 1 year warranty
DiOptika will repair or replace defective products within the warranty period, excluding damage from improper use, wear, or accidental breakage. Shipping costs are not covered under warranty.
How do I clean my Laser Glasses?
DiOptika recommends the following cleaning methods for our laser-protective eyewear to ensure longevity and performance:
- Use mild detergent or soap with warm water.
- Apply a diluted isopropyl alcohol solution (maximum 70-85%).
- Utilize commercially available lens cleaning solutions designed for eyewear.
- UV disinfection.
To clean your laser eyewear, rinse with clean water and use a neutral cleaning agent before gently drying with a soft cloth. Improper cleaning may damage the lens surface or compromise its integrity.
Avoid the following cleaning methods:
- Do not use harsh chemicals or acidic cleaning fluids.
- Do not immerse eyewear in sterilization or disinfectant fluids.
- Do not use ultrasonic cleaning systems, as they may cause damage.
DiOptika’s polycarbonate and glass lenses are mounted in nylon or polycarbonate frames, with filter absorption properties embedded in the lenses. These properties will not fade, scratch off, or degrade over time. However, if your eyewear has scratches that impair vision, cracks, or any visible damage, they should be replaced immediately.
Can I see the laser while wearing laser glasses?
Laser safety eyewear is designed for full protection according to ANSI Z136 or EN207 standards. This means:
Full protection glasses completely block the specified laser wavelength, making the laser beam invisible.
Alignment glasses (EN208) attenuate the beam to a safe level, allowing you to see the laser spot while reducing intensity.
If you are using full protection glasses and can still see the laser beam, it could mean:
The protection level is insufficient for the laser's power.
Secondary radiation at a different wavelength is present.
Always verify that your laser safety eyewear markings match your laser specifications. Properly selected glasses will remain stable under laser exposure for at least 5 seconds or 50 pulses, but directly
looking into a laser beam is never safe.
