Laser Safety Glasses for 915nm and 940nm Diode Lasers

Diode lasers operating around 915nm and 940nm are used in medical, industrial, scientific, and research applications. Because these wavelengths are in the near-infrared region, the radiation may be difficult or impossible to see, making appropriate eye protection especially important.

When choosing laser safety glasses, verify that the filter is specifically rated for the laser's operating wavelength. A pair of glasses designed for one infrared wavelength should not automatically be assumed to provide equivalent protection at another.

Optical density (OD) is another essential specification. OD indicates the level of attenuation provided at a particular wavelength or wavelength range. The appropriate OD depends on factors such as laser output, operating mode, and potential exposure conditions.

Some laser safety filters cover a broad range of near-infrared wavelengths, which can be useful when multiple diode lasers are used in the same workplace. However, the complete wavelength and OD specifications should always be reviewed.

Frame design also matters. Fit-over models can accommodate prescription eyewear, while wraparound frames and side shields can provide additional coverage.

Laser safety glasses should ultimately be selected according to documented wavelength and OD performance rather than lens color or appearance.
