How to check laser safety glasses meet US requirements

Sometimes when laser cutting or marking lasers are purchased from overseas it is worth checking they are property certified and compliant for use in the United States or Europe. To be properly compliant with US and European laser safety standards they are required to have the wavelengths they protect against as well as the OD ( Optical Densities ) and L ratings marked on the lenses.
