IPL ( Intense Pulsed Light ) produces a very bright flash made up of a broadband of wavelengths usually from around 400nm through to 1200 nm which stretches all through the visible spectrum into the infrared. Due to the whole visible spectrum being covered IPL Safety Glasses need to cut down the visible spectrum and therefore can be quite dark to look through.
IPL Safety Glasses come in three shade levels. Shade 2 is the lightest shade so are the easiest to see through however they also offer the lowest level of protection. Examples of Shade 2 IPL safety glasses are LG-011L shown in the below link.

The next level up are Shade 3 IPL Safety Glasses such as the LG-011 and LG-011N shown below. These are the mid shade so offer a balance of protections and visibility.

The darkest shade or the Shade 5 IPL glasses which are usually accepted as being too dark to be practical to work with. These are sometimes used on clients instead. The LG-011ND offers and example of these and can be seen below.
